This year, we have Spots V Stripes as part of the Gala, running along the Kelvin accessed via Eldon Street Bridge. We asked the Sports Development Team over at Glasgow Sport who run this program to give us some background. This is what they told us:

‘Cadbury’s are the official treat provider of the 2012 Olympic Games. Glasgow Sport is working in partnership with Cadburys and other partners to help deliver the Spots V Stripes programme. The programme is about getting people involved in activities to help encourage a greater sense of community in their local area and also to help increase their confidence, skills or experience.

At a local level Spots V Stripes has worked with a variety of partners across Glasgow Life (Events, Sports Development, Club, Coaching and Volunteering, Active Living, ACES, Area Services, Libraries, Museums, Play Services, Walking Programme and other external partners from Land & Environmental Services to Urban Fox.

Achievements in Glasgow to date  include  over 118 pots V Stripes events. Over 7000 people actively involved in games and over 44 Spots V Stripes volunteer ‘games ambassadors’ recruited.

The variety of activities Spots V Stripes can offer ranges from fun games and activities to sports.  Activities we can deliver include Golf, giant jenga, tennis, badminton, curling, sack races, tug of war, parachute, volleyball, athletics and much more’

Sounds like a load of fun – roll on Gala Day!
